Where to talk

MeshCore separates conversations into channels, just like a group chat with different rooms.

🌐 Public

Public Channel

The default shared channel everyone on the mesh can see. This is where NJ Mesh community members say hi, share updates, and help troubleshoot. It uses MeshCore's default public encryption key, so any MeshCore device can read it — think of it as the town square, not a private chat.

🔒 Private

Private Channels

Set up your own private channel with friends, family, or a group by sharing a unique channel key between your devices. Only people with that key can read the messages — good for a household, a hiking group, or a neighborhood watch.

Etiquette: Keep the public channel friendly and on-topic — mesh status, meetups, questions, and general chat are all welcome. Save sensitive or personal conversations for a private channel.

How to join or create one

  1. Open the MeshCore app (mobile, desktop, or web app) and connect to your device via Bluetooth or Serial
  2. Go to the Channels tab — the Public channel is joined automatically
  3. To create a private channel, tap "New Channel," name it, and share the generated key with whoever you want in it
  4. To join someone else's private channel, paste the key they send you
